If anybody ever seized the day, it was the man known as “Sweetness,” Walter Payton. Rookie of the Year in 1975. Five straight rushing titles from 1976-1980, to go along with the 1977 MVP. Nine total Pro Bowls and 16,726 all-time rushing yards. Walter glided down the sidelines with symphonic grace, yet lowered his shoulder and ran over defenders like a bulldozer. He soared over the goal line for touchdowns as if springing from a trampoline. He was a thing of wonder and awe, and made each and every day count.
